Describe yourself in three words: Blessed, Adventurous and Open-Minded (would that count for two? :)

What else should we know about you? I am a fairly easy going kinda girl, but hold high standards for myself and my family. I am a wife and mother to five of the coolest kids I’ve ever met. I stay at home with them and home school them for the time being and love every busy minute of it. I am truly living the dream!

What do you do? I create custom cakes, cookies and gourmet cupcakes for anyone who wants or needs them! I started in-house. Literally. I would make cakes and such for my own family and extended family. Then my neighbor got in on the game and from there, it’s just snowballed. My passion is for cakes, but I’ve recently found an amazing recipe for cookies that can be shipped. Since there are friends and family that don’t live close enough for a cake, cookies are the next best thing. I love trying out new recipes, too. I tend toward sweet stuff, but will try just about anything.

Why do you love it? I love it because it allows me the opportunity to share in others celebrations. I’m not an in-your-face kind of personality and prefer to be in the background, watching and experiencing their joy. It’s a really great feeling. It’s also allows me to channel my creative into something I can share and it challenges me. I’m always up for a good challenge!

Where do you get your inspiration? To be honest, with every cake I’ve made thus far, I’ve come to a point with it where I lose hope that it’s going to come to an acceptable end. Even when I have a picture or a vision of how I want it to look, there just seems to be a wall I hit. At this point, I lift it to God and just start praying…hard. I’d have to give my inspiration to Him. Otherwise, I just can’t explain it. I don’t really consider myself talented. I have just been given a love of what I’m allowed to do.

Who has been one of your biggest influences? My biggest influence is my family. To a one they have encouraged me from my very first cake – telling me I should go pro, take classes and the like. They believed in me when I didn’t and have pushed me to do my best. And when I hit my wall, my husband is first in line to reassure me that I am more than capable of making it perfect. They keep me going.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what three things could you not live without? I tell you what. I stayed up a long time thinking about this one. Do I go logical with a tarp, rope and a water distiller? Or foodie with an offset spatula, cast iron skillet and fire starter? I really tried to think of three good things, but an air conditioner was at the top of my list. I’m pretty sure that’s unrealistic. So I’ll say my husband, a tarp and a cast iron skillet. And those are subject to change… :)

Where do you see yourself in ten years? My first thought to answer this was – the mother of four teenagers. It was so profound, I didn’t get much past there. But I’d love to be in a brick and mortar. I have no idea if ten years is enough for that to happen. I’m patient in that regard. I would absolutely love to continue doing exactly what I’m doing and expand in small steps. It’s always been a dream to have a bakery and if this is all it ever is, then I have no regrets.

Anything else you just *have* to say? I’m about as tickled as a girl can be to get to do this interview! I don’t know if anything I do or am can be inspirational or noteworthy, but the road I’m on is so fun, I wouldn’t trade it for anything! Thanks so much for this opportunity!!
